Dr. Scholl's gel inserts review

(I received this product to review, all opinions are my own)

I was recently given the opportunity to review Dr. Scholl's gel inserts for women, and was kind of excited about it.
Being pregnant my feet just naturally hurt more, but being that it's summer time I want to get out and walk more.  I had to give up my favorite cheap-o flip flops last summer finally because they had no support, and switched to sandals and tennis shoes more often to prevent more foot issues.

When they finally arrived in the mail I opened them up and was quite ready to test them out.  I had to cut them to fit my shoes, but they are marked with a size guide so you know where to cut.  I accidentally cut one a size to small, but I haven't felt like it's been an issue.

They were a little tough to fit into my shoes, but I'm sure that's just so they stay snug and don't slip around when you are putting on and taking off the shoes.

So far I have no complaints about them and would recommend them.  They definitely have helped with some of the pain in my feet and I can walk farther than I used to be able to.

There were a few times after running errands for a few hours my feet would just hurt with every step I took, and I'd have to bug Rob for a foot massage, and I haven't needed to since.  I still do because I still love me a great foot massage, but I don't have to because I am in pain.

Some facts about them.

  • Double the comfort in your shoes for those with foot discomfort
  • Feature a Dual Wave Design — soft blue gel cushions and provides superior shock absorption, while firmer purple gel offers added support
  • Fit comfortably in everyday shoes
  • Come in men’s sizes 8–13 and women’s sizes 6–10
  • Sell for a suggested retail price of $12.99
  • Can be found in the foot care aisle of most drugstores, grocery stores and discount mass retailers
  • Offer a money-back guarantee, so there’s no risk in trying them!

Cabin Fever & Finances

I know it's not winter and I can leave the house, but more often than not I don't.
I choose not to leave the house because if I do I know that I will wind up spending money that I don't have to spend.

I am still searching for work, although thanks to a cousin of Rob's I have a one day a week thing which helps.  Any sort of income helps though.

My student loans are paid pretty far ahead and I planned on using the money each month for other things, but last month things changed within the repayment plan and I had to start paying on them again.

I still do my best to save money when I can.  Last week we had some interesting meal combinations because I didn't want to have to buy groceries, and I knew I could get us by.  I still avoid turning on lights if possible and I take showers at half water pressure to save on that.  I've tried to sell what I can, and I shop garage sales for maternity clothes when I find them.  I spent a little ($40) of money on clothes for baby girl, but other than those and a rock n play, which I talked the lady down to $30 (new $60) I've bought nothing for her.

I want to buy her stuff, but I just can't justify it yet.  Because we have the rock n play and a bassinet given to us, and I plan on her sleeping in one of those, I really don't even need to buy her a mattress for the crib yet.  So other than diapers, clothes (in the 0-3 month range) and a car seat I can't afford to buy her anything else at the point.

Like I've said before we don't go out to eat very often and when we do it's usually because we have a gift card or it's happy hour and food is half off or something like that.   We do pay for the internet and netflix, but that it's.  The internet has been a resource for me.  I've found several ways to earn gift cards to amazon and get free things.

Most of the free things come from sweepstakes (and it has wound up reducing the amount we need for baby), but I get samples of stuff, and last week we saw a movie before it was even released for free because I saw it on a blog I follow and my local theater was participating.

I have been working on this blog a little.  I've been participating in some group giveaways which are fun to do.

I've also been working on getting into a a few other blogging campaigns.  I was accepted as mom central blogger recently (Here)

I also am participating in a buzz agent campaign for Dr. Scholl's foot gel inserts, and I'm looking forward to that one because my feet hurt more for sure because of pregnancy.

I just found out yesterday I was accepted into another campaign which is for dish washing pacs.  It's not exciting, but dishes are my most dreaded chore so anything that will make it easier will be beneficial.

So with that aside, not much else is new with me.

I've posted before about other ways I make or save money online so I'll share that again. (Making money)

22 weeks down 18 to go

How far along:  22 weeks

Baby Size:  A papaya

Weight:  Up another 2lbs this week, total of about 12.5

  • I have been smelling things at home that I haven't cooked/been around in weeks.
  • Acid Reflux, at least I think that's what it is.  I don't feel any discomfort or pain, and then I burp up bile (sorry)
  • I have become a klutz lately.  I have had a lot of instances where things just seem to slip out of my hand
  • Lots of trips to the bathroom.

Maternity Clothes:  Luckily everything in my order from Old Navy worked out. The jean shorts are a little snug, but not really a big deal.  I have another pair that are like that as well (maybe my thighs are fatter now?)

Sleep:  I've long given up on it.

Cravings/Food Aversions:

  • Still donuts (although I try to limit myself to once a week)
  • Cereal
  • Chocolate
  • Cherry coke
Pretty much I need to crave healthier things

Belly Button: Still in, but Rob commented yesterday that it had darkened a little.

Rings on or off: On

Gender:  A girl!

Name:  Eleanor Rose

My mom was in the area last week and took this picture of the street sign for the road we got her name from.

Movement:  She didn't move much last week from Monday until Thursday night and naturally I worry (although I know it is normal).  Then since Thursday night she has been pretty active.  Yesterday she kicked the hardest yet, and I was like "Whoa what was that?"

Stretch Marks: I haven't seen any yet

Best moment: Feeling her move more

Looking forward to:  Viability in 2 weeks

What I miss:  Sleep.  I missed alcohol over the weekend when everyone but me had some sort of drink.

Labor signs: I think I might have been having Braxton Hicks last week, but I don't know if it is too early for that.

Appointments:  2 weeks from today, just a checkup and I am doing the glucose test that day.

Misc. The baby bump is more obvious now.  I've been getting a lot of 'Whoa's' from family members lately.

Bounce into Summer Giveaway

ARV $400
Hosted by:
A Lucky Ladybug
A Ladybug on the Go

This playhouse really has it all.  It is height is just low enough to be used indoors, but it has a full pool and water slide for those hot summer days.  The bounce area (6x6 feet) is a nice size for a few kids and there is a separate ball pit that holds two packs of play balls just right.

Perfect for the kids who want more then just a backyard pool, and it can be used inside when it rains or even all winter (it's just 6 feet high and will fit in most rooms or in the basement of any house).

Included with Little Sprout - All-In-One Bouncer, Slide & Pool is an over sized carry bag, patch kit for rips and tears, constant air blower w/ GFCI circut interuptor for safety, ground stakes, and of course a water hose hook up.

"Make Our Own Network" solely organized this event and I received no compensation for this publication. My opinions are 100% my own and may differ from your own or even those stated in this post. Urban Times in Michigan is not responsible for sponsor prize shipment.

21 weeks

How far along:  21 weeks

Baby Size: A pomegranate

Weight:  133!  Up 2 1/2lbs this past week.  My total is just over 10lbs, 7 of that in the last month.

Having to pee all night every night.

Maternity Clothes:  $100+ dollars later I have a pair of jean shorts that fit, a tank top, t-shirt, maxi dress that work. I also ordered another pair of jean shorts, yoga/ casual style shorts, a hoodie, a t-shirt and a tank top from old navy so hoping those will work.  I hate spending money on clothes when I don't have a job, but I need a few more things, and I'll probably be okay.  Get used to seeing me in the same things this summer.

Sleep:  I miss it.

Cravings/Food Aversions:  I want donuts!  Actually I told myself if I wanted one yesterday I had to walk to get it.  So I did.  It was a mile and a half (there and back) in 80 degree temps.  I got my donut though.

Belly Button: Still pretty far in.

Rings on or off:  On, although it's been humid so it was a little hard to slide off yesterday.
Please excuse the messy hair.

Gender:  Girl!

Name:  On Friday I was out with my sister and she guessed it and I can't lie.  So we decided to go ahead and share it.  Rob was pretty excited to call his family and tell them.  Her first name comes from the name of the road that my grandparents lived on and that I had really good memories on.  So while technically we are naming her after a road it's a legit name.  Her middle name is Rob's grandma's name. Her name is.....

Eleanor Rose

Movement: It's still sporadic but the movements are a little stronger, and more poke/jab like and less of the rolling pulsing I was feeling before.

Best moment: Hearing the heartbeat again; getting lots of clothes for her (thank you garage sales and donations), sharing the name.

Looking forward to:  Viability day in 3 weeks.

What I miss:  Sleep, frozen mixed drinks, riding my bike.

Labor signs: Nope and I'm okay with nothing for another 17 weeks.

Appointments:  24 week and the glucose test on June 13th.

Misc.  Thanks to some savvy shopping and donations she is all set for newborn size (maybe need a few short sleeve onesies), and the 3-6 month range.  I still need 0-3 size, 6-9 month, and 9-12 (but I won't worry about that size until next summer).

Monday, May 20, 2013

I've known this day was coming for a while.  Since September actually, but it's still a little tough.

Tommorrow is the day that would have been my first due date.  My second due date would have been at the end of June (I got pregnant 2 cycles in a row).

I won't say it's easy to know that at this point I could possibly be holding my son or daughter, but being pregnant has helped somewhat.  Back when it first happened, I knew that if I wasn't pregnant by this point again it would be more difficult to get through.

Rob's put it all past him, and I don't blame him or anything.  Honestly I kind of have too, mostly anyway, but I still think about it sometimes.

I'm so grateful this pregnancy has been pretty easy and that baby girl is growing and looking good.  She's moving more so that's always reassuring to me to feel her.

Without my losses I wouldn't have her, and for the love I already feel for her I can't imagine that.

I just want my other babies to somehow know that for the short time they were with me, I loved them so very much, and they will always be a part of my story.

20 weeks- 1/2 way done. Say What?

I'm halfway through this pregnancy.  Halfway! How did that happen? Mind blown.

How far along:  20 weeks

Baby Size:  Banana

Weight:  130.6.  2lbs this last week.  I blame it on cake & ice cream for Robs birthday.  I nee to get out and walk.  I'm up 4lbs in 3 weeks.  I think almost 8 total.

Even though my stomach isn't that big yet, I'm starting to venture into the uncomfortable category.  It's more uncomfortable to sit forward then it's been, and I feel a lot of pressure in my lower stomach.

Maternity Clothes:  I don't even attempt my non maternity jeans. I have enough maternity ones that I was given or borrows.  I am still wearing some of my regular shirts.  I need to get some shorts or capri's or something for summer though.

Sleep:  I'm back to 2 hours being a good stretch at night.  I sleep with a regular pillow between my legs and I guess it's time to get out the pregnancy pillow.

Cravings/Food Aversions:  Cereal (especially fruit loops).  If I think about something for more than a few moments it will sound good.  Except for chicken.  That just doesn't sound good.

And caffeine free diet coke fountain pop with cherry flavoring.  That is always on my mind.

Belly Button: In

Rings on or off: On

Gender:  Girl!

Name:  Getting lots of pressure to share.  I'm terrible at secrets.  Although once we tell it we can't change it.  Not that we would anyway.   We almost shared on mother's day, but I didn't really want to.

Movement: Still sporadic and soft, but happening a little more often.  Rob felt her over the weekend. :)  She usually moves a little more if I drink ice water, so I drank some and just waited a moment, and it was a really soft movement, but Rob felt it.  It was pretty cool.

Best moment:  Being halfway done.

Looking forward to:  Viability in 4 weeks.

What I miss:  I am not a big drinker, but we were out for Rob's birthday on Friday and there were margaritas being drunk and I was jealous.

Labor signs: Nope

Appointments:  My 20 week appt was supposed to be this morning, but it got rescheduled with the nurse for Thursday.

Misc.  I have 2 showers planned for August now.  My dad's side and my mom's side.  It get's to be to much to combine them; just to many people.  I'm getting excited about that.  We won't register for a while, at least not in-store.  I might start them online though.

Weekly wrap up 5.11.13

I've been absent with my weekly wrap-up's lately.  I just haven't had much going on aside from the pregnancy, and I don't want to make these all about pregnancy.

1)  So my job has ended.  Now I'm back to attempting to find something again.  I know Rob says we will be okay, but I just hate not helping out financially.

2) And while we might  be financially okay at the moment, in a few months it will be a different story.  Hello $3,000 deductible

3) We had some beautiful weather earlier this week.  I even got a slight sunburn being outside (I'm usually good about sunscreen, but I hadn't planned to be out for so long and just didn't think about it). Then yesterday it got cold, and my winter coat won't zip up so that was a bummer (it's not broken, I'm just to big for it to zip up)

4) Yesterday was Rob's birthday! We went to Logan's for dinner with his: mom, sister and brother in law, niece and nephew, and his grandparents.   It was nice to see them and visit.  Then we had cake and later ice cream back at our house.  I didn't get him much, just a few shirts.  Even baby girl got him a onesie that said I love daddy.  :)  I'm hoping it will fit her on his birthday next year (it's a 9 month so it might be a little big if she's a peanut.  If she's not then it shouldn't be a problem at all).  I did make him a handmade card.   I didn't want to spend money on a card when I had plenty of scrapbook paper, and supplies.  It turned out just fine.

5) Because I haven't been working I've been doing some deep cleaning around the house.  This week I cleaned the top of the kitchen cabinets.  I'm pretty sure that it's never been done since Rob bought the house...4 years ago.  I don't even know if it was done then.  It took me several hours to clean.  The only thing that worked was oil soap.  It was a bit uncomfortable because I couldn't stand up straight because of the height so my neck was crooked and by the end neck and shoulders hurt.  Oh and my arms.  They are still sore from scrubbing.   I put paper towel down when I was all done so hopefully that will help in the future.

I've done other cleaning as well.  I cleaned the bathroom basement (that rarely gets used by Rob; it's to cold down there for me), all the baseboards, behind the fridge; I dust most days; vacuum and clean the floors behind, among other things.  At least the house has never been better.  My sister thinks I'm nesting already.  I think it's more needing to feel productive.

6) I made homemade meatballs this week.  Despite my meat aversions I ate a few and they were pretty good.  They took some time to make though.  I had to shape the meatballs, then freeze them, roll them in flour, brown them and then bake them with the sauce that I also made.   Rob enjoyed them and said he would eat them again.  That's  my test.  If he would eat it again then it was a success.  Most of my creations turn out luckily.

7) I've had a few good wins lately.  I won a few gift codes to websites that sell cloth diapering stuff so I picked up a few diapers, I won a music table (worth $200), and a baby swing.  We were given one,  but the perk to this is it's more travel friendly.  I'm still waiting to get it.   I try to keep an updated list in a tab at the top of the page.

8) I've made progress on my quiet book.  I've gotten all the started pages actually finished.  I'm happy with how it's turning out.  My niece enjoyed the potato head page and the tic tac toe page. I also did a shape page and a number page.  I want to add a few more before finishing it off.  When I'm done I'll post about it.

9)  We (and by we I mostly mean Rob) have been getting some projects ready to do around the house.   His grandpa gave us an old storm door which is in better shape than ours (just needs a new screen), we bought casing to go around the big garage door and have a few other things in mind.   I'm excited to add a little curb appeal to the house.

Happy Birthday Rob!

Today is Rob's birthday!

I am super excited to be able to share life with him everyday.  He is a awesome man who works really hard to take care of us.

He is loyal to his friends and family and get's along with everyone and is always willing to help someone out.

He thinks about me and picks up little treats for me when he sees something he knows I will like.

I'm happy to be able to celebrate one more birthday with him.

Birthday 2008

Birthday 2009
Birthday 2010
Birthday 2011
No pictures from last year, and I need to do a better job of taking them
and having Rob actually look at the camera.

19 week update

How far along:  19 weeks

Baby Size:  softball or a mango

Weight:  I gained about a pound this last week.  I'm up right around 6 overall now.

Apparently I had a bad case of pregnancy brain over the weekend.

Maternity Clothes:  I think I still could wear my regular clothes, but I've started mixing them in.

Sleep:  I'm sleeping in 2 hour stretches so it's gotten better.

Cravings/Food Aversions:   I've jumped off the no caffeine bandwagon.  I knew it was fine to have before, but having given it up before getting pregnant I just didn't want to start again.  I haven't had a whole soda to myself, but I've been drinking off of Robs when he has it.  Yummy cherry coke!

Belly Button:  Way in.  I'd be surprised if it popped.

Rings on or off: On

Gender:  GIRL!

Name:   We settled on a name this weekend.  We had the first name picked even before getting pregnant, but we needed a middle name.  It's not my favorite middle name, and I wouldn't have chosen it, but it was important to Rob and it does sound fine together.  I've started saying it so I can get used to it.   We are keeping the name a secret, probably will share before birth though.   I will say the name isn't just a random name we both liked.  There is sentiment behind it (actually both)

Movement: I felt a few little pokes last week and have been feeling something that almost feels like tickling (maybe that's the butterfly feeling).  I'm pretty sure it's her although it is sporadic.

Best moment: I overhead Rob on the phone talking about being a father to a daughter and how he has heard that relationship is actually deeper with a daughter than a son (I have no idea if this is true), but just the way he was talking about wanting to take her out and do daddy/daughter things when she was older just melted my heart and made me smile.

Rob's great aunt gave us a blanket over the weekend that his great grandma made for his first baby before she died.  I never meet her so it was before we were even together (and we've been together almost 6 years).  I guess he went over there one day and they were working on them for all the kids, and Rob commented on how he liked the fabric and she made him one.  His great aunt has been saving it for years and was so excited to give it to us.  I love that there is meaning and a story behind it and that's it her connection to her great great grandma.

Looking forward to:   Next week being half way done.

What I miss:

Labor signs: No no no.  Nothing until 38 weeks please.

Appointments:  Next week at 20 weeks.

Misc.  We visited Rob's grandparents on Sunday.  They got us a big box of diapers (they said it was a birthday gift for Rob, his birthday is Friday), and a cute bag that had a few outfits, bibs and blankets in it.  Baby girl is spoiled already!

I've had my aunts on my my mom's and dad side's talk to me already about baby showers.  Aah it seems so soon.

Trust the gut

The anatomy scan was yesterday.   Our tech was fantastic.  She explained everything she was looking at and was very thorough.  Some of the things I really had no idea I was looking at.  It was cool to see the different chambers of the heart and the kidney's among other things.  Everything looked good.

Annnddddd we found out that our healthy baby is a girl! I guess my feeling was correct!

I won't post the 'money shot.'  I don't want baby girl mad at me in in 15 years.  I'll post a few 'safe' pictures instead.

The gifs below pretty much sum up how I felt after the appointment. :)
